Here are some answers to common questions many newcomers have about our community:

How do I . . . ?

Curious about who we are? Perhaps the best way to get to know us is to attend a Sunday program or two. It's easy! Just look through our list of programs and pick one that interests you. After each program we have a coffee hour (snacks too) where you can meet and chat with members, other guests and the featured speaker. It's just that simple! We really hope you'll join us for an upcoming talk.

What if I can't come to a program?

We always like meeting new friends in person, but if you would feel more comfortable sending an email, we would love to hear from you. If you would like to know more or have any specific questions about our society, just drop us a note.

One good reason to write: you shouldn't skip a first visit because of transportation concerns. While the half-mile walk from the cta (Yellow Line) is beautiful (especially in the summer), we may be able to arrange pickups from the train or connect you with someone coming from your part of Chicagoland.

How do I become a member?

If you want to come regularly to our events and get to know us before becoming a member you can just show up! EHSC is a great place to build a community with like-minded people, and you don't need any official status to do that. EHSC is not the kind of place that pressures people into membership. We want to provide a community for those who identify with our philosophy.

We hope that after you get to know us you will consider becoming a member of EHSC. Membership in our democratic society entails both time and financial commitments. We couldn't sustain our community without support from our members, but that relationship is one we don't rush.
