"Storm Chasing: Is It Really Like in 'Twister'?"

Storm chasing, often overdramatized in movies such as "Twister" and "Into the Storm," is, while still a dangerous undertaking, a much more mundane yet still thrilling experience than Hollywood makes it out to be. Bobby will share his personal experiences chasing thunderstorms that have produced hail and tornadoes in Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa. Many misconceptions about storm chasing will also be debunked.

About Bobby Jackson:

Bobby Jackson, born in Georgia but raised in Washington, Illinois, is no stranger to the types of dangerous weather that can occur in the Midwest. Jackson's passions always included studying the weather. As a kid, he would constantly watch the Weather Channel and idolized Jim Cantore. His passions led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying the microscale characteristics of clouds. After a brief tenure at the University of Wyoming where his research interests gravitated towards studying thunderstorms, he then proceeded to study thunderstorms in the Tropics as a researcher at Argonne National Laboratory. When he is not in the lab, he can be found chasing storms, playing board games, reading science fiction, or hiking.
