Jacob Mueller

Director of Administrative Operations in the Department of Medical Education at the UIC College of Medicine

"The Way Home: A Transgender Journey"


Jacob Mueller, Director of Administrative Operations in the Department of Medical Education at the UIC College of Medicine, will share with us his personal journey as a male born into a female body, and the transition that helped him find his true self. He will tell us about his lifelong struggle with gender and his work to educate others about gender identity and transgender people. 

 

About Jacob Mueller:

Jacob (Jay) Mueller, longtime activist, educator and agitator is a founding board member of the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance. A certified mediator, he facilitates Safe Zone and cultural competency trainings in academia and the private sector and is a member of the UIC Dispute Resolution team. His current professional focus is intersectionality as well as trans* medical case curricular development. 

He opened the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Gender and Sexuality Center in 1995, and shares the UIC Safe Zone founder award presented in 2012. 

In his 23rd year at UIC, Jay is currently the Director of Administrative Operations for the Department of Medical Education in the College of Medicine. His responsibilities include finance, human resources, purchasing, grants and contracts, facilities management and international programs for Medical Education and its five divisions. He also administers two masters programs; Health Professions Education (MHPE) and Patient Safety Leadership (MPSL).

Jay lives in Chicago with his wife, awesome kids and annoying pets and has an MEd with concentrations in urban education and adolescent development. 

Our Adult Programs:
A typical Sunday meeting begins at 10:30, ends at noon and consists of a speaker or presentation focusing on current issues, ethical philosophy, lifespan education, or the arts. Platforms are open to the public and admission is free, although we request a donation of $5.
 
Our Program for Children:
